Week 4

Well I haven't been so good about documenting all the fun learning that is taking place...but we are having a great time!! We have conquered the letters m, r, and s, and the children are doing a GREAT job retaining them...quiz them every once in awhile...see if they can tell you a word that starts with the "S" sound or the "M" sound...they are all doing fantastic with that.
We also practiced the number three: "Around the tree-- Around the tree--that's how you make a three". Have them say that with you as you practice writing it. I'm hoping the poems help them remember the correct shape that each number has!
We practiced the colors red and green. I wrote the red song last week but green goes like this:(tune: row row row your boat)
G-R-E-E-N G-R-E-E-N
caterpillars are GREEN
G-R-E-E-N
Have your kids sing it to you
we made some of our rain forest animals including our "jaguars" --sorry they were so big and bulky...I heard a lot of them had to be thrown away! :)
Our Snake (that started with "S"...made the right sound and was green)
And our Monkey's today that had THREE bananas for feeding.
We played a new memory game where the kids had to match the rain forest animal pictures with their written name (a snake picture and then they had to find the word snake)...next week we will play again and add the Spanish names for all of them! They really enjoy playing memory.
we also have a grocery shopping game...I have a picture of several different items and how much they cost and they have to tell me what I can buy for $3.00., etc. they are enjoying this one as well and I love introducing money so early and simple math (today I told them I only wanted to spend one dollar so what could I buy...after they told me...I then asked how much money I had left, etc. so fun to see their little minds work).
A few of my friends, especially Ethan, Kayden and Audrey have really got into puzzles, and I must say I am quite impressed with their skills!!
Next week we will be moving on to the letter "A" and I will teach them three sounds a-apple; Ay-ate; Au-audrey...hope you don't mind...the biggest emphasis will be on "a" (apple).
We will continue our rain forest Animals...parrots, iguanas, bugs, butterflies...and continue painting...so be prepared.
Also..I don't think I have complimented you yet this year...thank you SO much for always being so punctual. I appreciate you respecting my time. You are doing fabulous remembering the pick up rules...and you truly are the best!! I am the luckiest teacher ever to have such a good group of kids and parents. Thank you for letting me be a small part of your child's day and life! Have a great week! Please let me know if I can do ANYTHING to improve your child's education or learning experience, or if they are sad for any reason, etc. Thanks for all you do!! Keep up the GREAT work with homework...I can't believe how many of them are already starting to write their name all by themselves...and my returning kids already have their last names down perfectly! I LOVE it!!
